মহানবী পুরো জীবনে ১০১ টি যুদ্ধ বা অভিযানের নেতৃত্ব দিয়েছেন। যার মধ্যে ২৮ টিতে সরাসরি যুদ্ধের ময়দানে গিয়ে যুদ্ধ করেছেন শেষ নবী। বাকি ৭৩টিতে পাঠিয়েছিলেন প্রতিনিধি।
মহানবী নিজে যে যুদ্ধে গিয়েছেন তাকে বলা হয় গাজওয়া, আর যে যুদ্ধে প্রতিনিধি পাঠিয়েছেন তাকে বলা হয় সারিইয়া।
ইসলামের প্রথম অভিযান ছিল মহানবীর চাচা হামজা ইবনে আবু মোত্তালিবের নেতৃত্বে একটি কুরাইশি কাফেলাকে বাধা দেয়া। সেটির নাম ছিল সারিইয়া সায়ফুল। সময়কাল ছিল ৬২৩ সালের মার্চ মাস ।
তবে মহানবীর প্রথম যুদ্ধ অভিযান ছিল গাজওয়া ওয়াদ্দান। আর প্রথম যুদ্ধ ছিল বদরের যুদ্ধ । এই পর্বে আমরা নজর দিতে চাই ইসলামের বা মুসলমানদের প্রথম যুদ্ধ বদরের দিকে।
