সমুদ্র বলতে আমরা বুঝি কক্সবাজারকে। এর রং রুপ যে কাউকে আকর্ষন করে চুম্বকের মতো। আর বিকেলের এর সৌন্দর্য যেন একটু বেশি অপরুপ হয়ে ওঠে। আর এজন্যই মানুষ ছুটে ছুটে সমুদ্রের কাছে। চলুন আজ সমুদ্রের বিকেলের এই রং আর রুপে মুগ্ধ হয়ে আসি এবং কক্সবাজার শহরের ইতিহাস জেনে আসি।
ঢাকা থেকে কক্সবাজার ৪১৪ কিলোমিটারের পথ । সড়ক আর বিমানপথই আপাতত ভরসা । সরাসরি রেলযোগাযোগের চালু হতে অপেক্ষা করতে হবে ২০২২ সাল পর্যন্ত। অথচ কক্সবাজারই আমাদের দেশের শ্রেষ্ঠ পর্যটন নগরী। এই সমুদ্র ঘিরে অসংখ্য হোটেল অপরিকল্পিতভাবে গড়ে উঠিছে। আমরাও একটি হোটেলে হোটেল উঠে গেলাম।
খুব অল্প সময় নিয়ে কক্সবাজার এসেছি। তাই দেরি না করেই দ্রুত চলে গেলাম পৃথিবীর সবচেয়ে লম্বা সমুত্র সৈকতের দিকে। পরিসংখান বলছে এটি ১২২ কিমি দীর্ঘ যা পৃথিবীর আর কোথাও নাই।
বিকেলে এই সমুদ্রের রং দেখতে দেখতে একটু ইতিহাস থেকে ঘুরে আসা যাক । কক্সবাজার আগে ‘পানোয়া’ নামে পরিচিত ছিল যার অর্থ হলুদ ফুল। মুঘলরা যখন এই এলাকা নিযন্ত্রন নেয় তখন এটি ‘পালঙ্কি’ নামে পরিচিতি লাভ করে। জানা যায় ১৬১৬ সালে আরাকান যাবার সময় মুঘল সম্রাট শাহ সুজা তার বহর নিয়ে এই স্থানে অবস্থান করেছিলেন। তিনি এর সৌন্দর্য দেখে মুগ্ধ হয়েছিলেন।
বিভিন্ন সময়ে এই কক্সবাজারের নিয়ন্ত্রন ছিল বিভিন্ন গোস্ঠির হাতে। মুঘলদের পর এই এলাকার নিয়ন্ত্রন নেয় ত্রিপুরারা তারপর আরকান,পতূগীজ, ব্রিটিশ,পাকিস্থানের পর এই এলাকা এখন আমাদের হাতে।
কিন্তু প্রশ্ন হল এর নাম কক্সবাজার হলো কিভাবে ?
কক্সবাজারের আগের নাম ছিল পালংকি। ১৭৭৩ সালে ব্রিটিশ ইন্ডিয়ায় বাংলার গভর্নর নিযুক্ত হন ওয়ারেন হেস্টিংস। তখন এই পালংকির মহাপরিচালক নিযুক্ত হন ক্যাপ্টেন হিরাম বক্স। এই এলাকায় দীর্ঘদিন ধরে সংঘর্ষ চলে আসছিল স্থানীয় রাখাইন ও শরনার্থী আরাকানদের মধ্যে। ক্যাপ্টেন বক্স সেই দ্বন্দ সংঘাত নিরসনে নানান পদক্ষেপ নেন। শরনার্থীদের পুর্নবাসনে তার ভূমিকা প্রশংসিত হয়। কিন্তু ১৭৯৯ সালে কাজ শেষের আগে হঠাৎ তিনি মারা যান। তার এই অবদানকে স্মরনীয় করে রাখার জন্য স্থানীয়রা একটি বাজারের নাম দেয় ‘ককস সাহেবের বাজার’। সেখান থেকে আজকের কক্সবাজার। ১৮৫৪ সালে গঠিত হয় কক্সবাজার থানা ।
কক্সবাজার কোন ভাবে পর্যটন নগরীর সুবিধা নিয়ে গড়ে উঠছে না। তবে আজ নয় অন্য একদিন এই সব অসংগতি এই নিয়ে একটি পর্ব করবো। আজ শুধু এর বিকেলের সৌন্দয্য উপভোগ করি । আপনিও চলে আসতে পারেন ।
