আলেকজান্ডার হচ্ছেন পৃথিবীর ইতিহাসের সবচেয়ে প্রভাবশালী যোদ্ধা। মাত্র ৩২ বছর বয়সে যিনি পৃথিবীর অর্ধেকটাই দখল করে ফেলেছিল। গ্রিস থেকে ভারতের পাঞ্জাব দখলে তিনি একটি যুদ্ধেও হারেনি। ইতিহাসের এই পরাক্রমশালী যোদ্ধার কথা মানুষ দুই হাজার বছর পরও মনে রেখেছে। সবাই তাকে চেনে আলেকজান্ডার, আলেকজান্ডার দ্যা গ্রেট নামে ।
পুরোধারাবাহিক জুড়ে আমরা নজর দেবো  আলেকজান্ডারের জন্ম, মৃত্যু, শিক্ষা, প্রেম এবং যুদ্ধসহ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ঘটনাগুলোর দিকে।  আজ দশম কিস্তিতে নজর দেয়া যাক আলেকজান্ডারের মৃত্যুর দিকে

কিভাবে মৃত্যু হল পৃথিবীর শ্রেষ্ঠ পরাক্রমশালী এই ব্যক্তির তা আজও অমীমাংসিত । জুন মাসের ১০ তারিখ সাল ৩২৩ খ্রী.পু. তখন তার বয়স  মাত্র ৩২ বছর। বেবিলনের নেবুচাদনেজারের প্রাসাদে মৃত্যু হয় প্রাচীণ পৃথিবীর সবচেয়ে প্রভাবশালী ব্যক্তি আলেকজান্ডারের।

 

তার মৃত্যুর সঠিক কারন আজও উন্মোচিত হয়নি কারন সেদিনকার সময়  চিকিৎসা ব্যবস্থা এত উন্নত ছিল না, ছিলনা ফরেনসিক পরীক্ষার ব্যবস্থাও। তার  মৃত্যুর  সাম্ভাব্য  যে কয়েকটি  কারন ধারণা  করা  হয়  তা হলো:

 

১. ম্যালেরিয়া জ্বর:

অনেকে মনে করেন তার মৃত্যু হয়েছে ম্যালেরিয়া জ্বরে। ভারতে আক্রমনের সময় দীর্ঘদিন জঙ্গলে যুদ্ধ করতে হয়েছে । সেসময় সিলিফিস মশার কামড়ে তার এই রোগ হয় দিন এবং কিছু রোগে ভোগার পর তিনি মারা যান। ঠিক  একই রোগে কিছুদিন আগে তার প্রাণপ্রিয় বন্ধু ও সহযোদ্ধা হেফাসটিওনেরও এর  মৃত্যু  হয়েছিল। কারো কারো মতে এই রোগটি ছিল টাইফয়েড অথবা কলেরা ।

২.বিষ প্রয়োগ:

তাকে বিষ  প্রয়োগে হত্যা করা হয়েছে। কে করছে তার সঠিক নাম জানা যায়না। তবে তার বিশ্বস্ত  জেনারেলরা কেউ করতে পারেন । এর কারন আলেকজান্ডারের একনায়কতন্ত্র মনোভাব, নিজেকে দেবতার আসনে বসানোসহ নানা কারনে জেনারেলদের  মনে ক্ষোভ  তৈরি হয়েছিল। এসব থেকে মুক্তির জন্যই তাকে হত্যা করা হয়েছে।

 

৩. ভারতীয় রাজার আঘাতে:

এখন অনেক  ইতিহাসবিদ মনে করেন আলেকজান্ডার ভারতীয়  রাজা পুরুসের  সাথে যুদ্ধ জয়ী হননি চুড়ান্তভাবে পরাজিত হয়েছিলেন। সেই যুদ্ধে তার প্রিয় ঘোড়া বুসেফেলিসের মৃত্যু হয় সাথে আলেকজান্ডারও মারাত্বকভাবে আহত হন। তার বুকে তীর বেঁধে যায়। আহত অবস্থায়  তিনি বেবিলনে ফিরে আসেন এবং এই আঘাতের কারনে সেখানে মারা যান।  

 

৪.শোকের মৃত্যু:

অনেকে মনে করেন আলেকজান্ডার শোকে, দু:খে এবং হতাশায় মৃত্যু বরণ করেছেন। ভারতবর্ষ  জিততে না পারার হতাশা, প্রিয় মানুষদের কাছে একনায়ক হয়ে ওঠা, অত্যাচারি অহংকারি রাজা হয়ে যাওয়াকে তিনি  মেনে নিতে পারছিল না। এমনকি সহযোদ্ধা ক্লাইটাস তাকে অত্যাচারি রাজা বলায় নিজ হাতে তাকে খুন করেছিলেন।  সেই হত্যার গ্লানি আর অনুশোচনায় জর্জরিত ছিলেন তিনি। এরপর  সবচেয়ে বড়  শোকটা আসে যখন  তার প্রাণপ্রিয় বন্ধু হেফাসটিওন মারা যায়। এই মৃত্যুতে আলেকজান্ডার প্রায় পাগল হয়ে গিয়েছিলেন। খাওয়া দাওয়া বন্ধ করে দিয়েছিলেন। বন্ধুকে বাঁচাতে না পারার কারনে চিকিৎসকে মৃত্যুদন্ড পর্যন্ত দিয়েছিলেন আলেকজান্ডার। 

 

হেপাসটিওনের মৃত্যুর কিছুদিন পর একই রোগে যুদ্ধের ময়দানে হার না মানা পৃথিবীর শ্রেষ্ঠ পরাক্রমশালী ব্যক্তিটি যখন হার মানেন তখন তার বয়স মাত্র ৩২ বছর ।
