পারভেজ সেলিম
আলেকজান্ডার হচ্ছেন পৃথিবীর ইতিহাসেরসবচেয়ে প্রভাবশালী যোদ্ধা। মাত্র ৩২ বছর বয়সে যিনি পৃথিবীর অর্ধেকটাই দখল করে ফেলেছিল। গ্রিস থেকে ভারতের পাঞ্জাব দখলে তিনি একটি যুদ্ধেও হারেনি। ইতিহাসেরএই পরাক্রমশালী যোদ্ধার কথা মানুষ দুই হাজার বছর পরও মনে রেখেছে। সবাই তাকে চেনে আলেকজান্ডার, আলেকজান্ডার দ্যা গ্রেট নামে।
কিন্তু কিভাবে এত অল্প বয়সের একজন তরুণ এত বিশাল সম্রাজ্য জয় করলো ? কত শক্তিশালী ছিল তার সেনাবাহিনী? অথবা ব্যক্তি আলেকজেন্ডার কি উভয়কামি ছিলেন ? কিভাবে মৃত্যু হলো আলেকজান্ডারের বিষে নাকি ম্যালেরিয়ায় ? আলেকজেন্ডার কি সত্যিই মহান যোদ্ধা ছিলেন নাকি ছিলেন একজন দূর্ধর্ষ খুনি?
পুরো ধারাবাহিক জুড়ে আমার এরকম আরো নানা প্রশ্নের উত্তর খুঁজব। নজর দেবো আলেকজান্ডারের জন্ম, মৃত্যু, শিক্ষা, প্রেম এবং যুদ্ধসহ গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ঘটনাগুলোর দিকে। আজ তৃতীয় কিস্তিতে নজর দেয়া যাক আলেকজান্ডার কিভাবে সিংহাসনে লাভ করলেন তার উপর।

রাজা আলেকজেন্ডার : মেসিডোনিয়ার রাজা বয়স যখন ২০ !
৩৩৬ খ্রিষ্ট পূর্বাব্দ। দেহরক্ষির হাতে রাজা ফিলিপ নিহত সাথে সাথেই মেসিডোনিয়ার রাজা ঘোষনা করা হয় আলেকজান্ডারকে। তখন তার বয়স মাত্র ২০ বছর। এর সাথে সাথেই আলেকজান্ডার হয়ে ওঠেন পুরো গ্রিক সম্রাজ্যের মহান অধিপতি। সে সময়ের রাজনীতিটুকু বুঝতে আরো দেড়শ বছর পিছনে ফেরা যাক ।
৫০০ খ্রি.পূ। সে সময়ের সবচেয়ে প্রভাবশালী দুটি শহর রাষ্ট্র ছিল এথেন্স এবং স্পার্টা। আর্ট, যুদ্ধ আর দর্শণে এথেন্স ছিল জগৎবিখ্যাত। আর স্পার্টাদের ছিল অসীম সাহসী এক সেনাবাহিনী।
এই দুই দেশ একত্রে হয়ে বহি:শক্র পারস্যে আগ্রাসন প্রতিহত করেছিল। সালটা ৪৮০ খ্রি পূ । পারস্যকে হারিয়ে দিতে পেরেছিল এথেন্স ও র্স্পাটানদের একজোট হয়ে করা সাহসী যুদ্ধের জন্য। তবে তারা তাদের পবিত্র মন্দির রক্ষা করতে পারেনি। পারস্য বাহিনী ধ্বংস করে দিয়েছিল মন্দিরটিকে। তাদের এমন আক্রমনের কারনে গ্রিক বাসীরা যুগ যুগ ধরে ‘পারস্য সম্রাজকে’ শক্র হিসেবে গণ্য করে আসছিল।

গ্রিকের শহর রাস্ট্রগুলো এক হয়ে শক্র মোকাবেলা করার মতো শক্তিশালী হয়ে উঠতে পারছিল না। উল্টো একে অপরের সাথে যুদ্ধ করতে করতে নিজেরাই দূর্বল হয়ে পড়েছিল।
ঠিক এই সময়ে গ্রিসের দক্ষিনে মেসিডোনিয়া নামের নতুন শক্তিশালী এক শহর রাষ্ট্রের উত্থান ঘটে।
মেসিডোনিয়ার রাজা দ্বিতীয় ফিলিপ এক শক্তিশালী সেনাবাহিনী গঠন করেন। ‘সারিসা’নামের নতুন এক যুদ্ধাস্ত্র এবং ‘ফ্যালানক্স’নামের বিশেষ যুদ্ধ পদ্ধতি আয়ত্ব করে তারা একের পর এক পরাজিত করতে থাকেন গ্রিকের অন্যরাষ্ট্র গুলোকে ।
ফিলিপের স্বপ্ন ছিল গোটা গ্রিসকে শক্তিশালী এক রাষ্ট্রে পরিনত করে পারস্যে সাম্রাজ্যের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করা। কিন্তু সকল রাষ্ট্র ফিলিপকে তাদের নেতা মানতে রাজি ছিল না। শেষ পর্যন্ত ৩৩৮ খ্রী.পূব্দাব্দে ‘করোনিয়ার’যুদ্ধে এথেন্স ও থিবসকে পরাজিত করার পর পরিস্থিতি দ্রুত পাল্টে যায় । প্রায় সকল রাষ্ট্র রাজা ফিলিপের নেতৃত্বে আসতে বাধ্য হয় । ১৮ বছরের পুত্র আলেকজান্ডারও এই যুদ্ধে সাহসী ভুমিকা পালন করেছিলেন।
‘করোনিয়া’ যুদ্ধ জয়ের পর গ্রিসের সকল নগর রাষ্ট্রগুলো ফিলিপের নেতৃত্ব মেনে, একমাত্র র্স্পাটা ছাড়া। গঠিত হয় একটি নতুন ইউনিয়ন যার নাম ‘হেলেনিক লীগ’। এই লীগের মুল উদ্দ্যশ্য পুরো গ্রিকের শক্তি এক করে পারস্য আক্রমন করা। পারস্য আক্রমনের সর্বাধিনায়ক হন রাজা দ্বিতীয় ফিলিপ। কিন্তু হঠাৎ ফিলিপ নিহত হওয়ায় ভেস্তে যায় পারস্য আক্রমণের সকল পরিকল্পনা।

রাজা ফিলিপের ছিল ৭ স্ত্রী । দুই পুত্র, পাঁচ কন্যা । আলেকজান্ডার ছিলেন তার ২য় পুত্র । প্রথম পুত্র মানষিকভাবে অস্বাভাবিক ছিল বলে তার উত্তরাধিকার হবার সম্ভাবনা ছিল না। আলেকজান্ডারই ছিল যোগ্য উত্তরসুরি কিন্তু আলেকজান্ডারের রাজা হওয়াটা সহজ ছিলনা। কি ছিল তার বাধা ?
তার প্রধান বাধা ছিল তার মা অলিম্পাস । কারন জন্মসুত্রে তিনি মেসিডোনিয়ান ছিলেন না ছিলেন এপাইরাসিও। এজন্য মা অলিম্পিয়াস সব সময় সন্দেহ করতেন যে রাজা ফিলিপ আলেকজেন্ডারকে কখনোই তার উত্তরসুরি করবেন না। তাকে নিজ চেষ্টায় অর্জন করতে হবে এই সিংহাসন।
যদিও আলেকজেন্ডার এসব বিশ্বাস করতেন না। তিনি ভাবতেন পিতা-পুত্রের সুসম্পর্কে কোন ঘাটতি নাই এবং তিনিই হবেন তার যোগ্য উত্তরসুরি। সেভাবেই তিনি প্রস্তুতও হচ্ছিলেন। কিন্তু আলেকজান্ডারের বিশ্বাস ভাঙ্গে যখন জানতে পারেন তার পিতা আবার বিয়ে করছেন সেনাপ্রধান আত্তালোসের ভাইয়ের মেয়ে ‘কিলোপাত্রা ইউরিদিকে’। রাজা ফিলিপ এই বিশুদ্ধ মেসিডোনিয়ান নারীকে বিয়ে করছেন যাতে তার সিংহাসনের উত্তরসুরি পিতা মাতা দুজনের দিক থেকেই মেসিডোনিয়ান হন।
এটা শোনার পর আলেকজান্ডার বাবার মুখে মদের পাত্র ছুড়ে মেরেছিলেন এবং রাগ করে দেশ ছেড়ে চলে গিয়েছিলেন। ছয় মাস পর বাবা আবার ডেকে পাঠালে তার অভিমান ভাঙ্গে এবং রাজ প্রসাদে ফিরে আসেন ।
৩৩৬ খ্রি.পু বোন ‘কিলোপেত্রা’র বিয়ের অনুষ্ঠানের দিন দেহরক্ষি ‘পাউসিনিয়াসের’ ছুরির আঘাতেনিহত হন রাজা ফিলিপ। আর সাথে সাথে সেখানকার রাজ সদস্য ও সেনাবাহিনী তাদের রাজা ঘোষনা করে আলেকজান্ডারকে।

মাত্র বিশ বছর বয়সে রাজা হন আলেকজান্ডার। রাজা হয়েই একের পর এক হত্যা করতে থাকেন তার বিরুদ্ধের রাষ্ট্রীয় লোকদের। মেসিডোনিয়ার আগের রাজা চতুর্থ আমুনতাসকে হত্যা দিয়ে শুরু। এরপর মা অলিম্পাস হত্যা করে তার সৎ মা কিলোপেত্রার দুইসন্তানকে পরে কিলোপেত্রাও আত্নহত্যা করে। কিলোপেত্রার বাবা সেনাপ্রধান আত্তালোসকে হত্যা করেন সিংহাসন সুরক্ষা করার নামে। এভাবে নিজের ঘরের সাম্ভাব্য সকল বিরোধীকে হত্যার মাধ্যমে তিনি একজন শক্তিশালী রাজা হিসেবে তার অবস্থান সুদৃঢ় করেন ।
এছাড়া মাত্র ২০ বছর বয়সি রাজাকে মেনে নিতে না চাইলেন না অনেক রাষ্ট্র। বিদ্রোহ দেখা দিল বিভিন্ন দেশে। নিজের ঘর সামলানোর পর পুরো গ্রিসের এইসব রাষ্ট্রের বিদ্রোহ দমন দিয়েই শুরু হয় রাজা আলেকজান্ডারের যুদ্ধজীবন।
