ইসলামের প্রধান চারটি খেলাফত হচ্ছে রাশিদুন, উমাইয়া, আব্বাসীয় ও ফাতেমীয় খিলাফত। যার মধ্যে সবচেয়ে বিতর্কিত ও নৃসংশতার খিলাফত হচ্ছে উমাইয়া খেলাফত।
কারবালা হত্যাকান্ড, কাবা ঘরে আগুনসহ নানা অনৈতিক কর্মকান্ড জড়িয়ে পড়েছিল এই খেলাফতের প্রধানরা।
এই সময় ইসলামী খিলাফতকে রাজবংশ হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছিলেন উমাইয়া খলিফারা।ভালো কিছু কাজও হয়েছিল এসময়। ইসলামের রাষ্ট্রের সীমানা সর্বোচ্চ বৃদ্ধি, আরবী মুদ্রা প্রচলণ, শিক্ষা ও প্রসাশনিক ব্যবস্থার উন্নয়ন হয়েছিল উমাইয়া খেলাফতের সময়। ৮৯ বছর মুসলমানদের শাসন করেছে উমাইয়া খেলাফতের ১৪ জন খলিফা।
কুরাইশ বংশের প্রথম প্রধান পুরুষ ছিলেন আব্দুল মানাফ। তার দুই ছেলে শামস ও হাশেমের নামে দুটি শক্তিশালী গোত্রের সৃষ্টি হয়, যাদের মধ্যে ছিল চিরবৈরিতা। শামসের ছেলে উমাইয়া ও আর হাশিমের ছেলে মুত্তালিব।মোত্তালিবের নাতি ছিলেন ইসলামের প্রধান ব্যক্তি মহানবী হয়রত মুহাম্মদ সা.।আর উমাইয়ার নাতি তৃতীয় খলিফা উসমান ইবনে আফফান। যিনি ক্ষমতার কেন্দ্রে আসা উমাইয়া বংশের প্রথম ব্যক্তি।
তবে উমাইয়া খেলাফতের বংশানুক্রমিক শাসন শুরু হয় ৬৬১ সালে মুয়াবিয়ার হাত ধরে। মুয়াবিয়া ছিলেন উসমানের বড় ভাই আবু সুফিয়ানের বড় ছেলে।
খুলাফায়ে রাশেদুনের ২৯ বছর শাসন শেষে ইমাম হাসানের নিকট ক্ষমতা গেলে বিদ্রোহ করে বসেন উমাইয়া বংশের দ্বিতীয় প্রভাবশালী ব্যক্তি মুয়াবিয়া। তিনি তখন দামেস্কের গভর্নর। দ্বন্দ ফ্যাসাদ এড়াতে ইমাম হাসান শর্তসাপেক্ষে খেলাফত হস্তান্তর করেন মুয়াবিয়ার কাছে। মুয়াবিয়া হাত ধরেই ৬৬১ সালে শুরু হয় উমাইয়া খিলাফত।
১৯ বছর ক্ষমতায় থাকেন মুয়াবিয়া। চুক্তির শর্তভঙ্গ করে তার ছেলে ইয়াজিদকে ক্ষমতার উত্তরাধিকার নির্ধারণ করে যান। ইসলামে শুরু হয় পারিবারিক বংশের শাসন। খলিফার ছেলে খলিফা হতে শুরু করে। ৬৮০ সালে মুয়াবিয়ার মৃত্যু হলে ক্ষমতা পান ছেলে ইয়াজিদ।
চৌত্রিশ বছর বয়সে মুসলিম উম্মাহ ক্ষমতা নেন ইয়াজিদ। তিন বছর ছয় মাস চৌদ্দ দিন ক্ষমতায় আসীন ছিলেন উমাইয়া বংশের এই তৃতীয় শাসক।
ইয়াজিদের তিনটি বড় অপরাধ ঘটানোর অভিযোগ আছে। মদিনা আক্রমণ, কাবা ঘরে আগুন ও কারবালা হত্যাকান্ড।
৬৮৩ সালের ১১ নভেম্বর ৩৮ বছর বয়সে এক বিরল রোগে মৃত্যু হয় উমাইয়া বংশের সর্বোচ্চ বিতর্কিত এই ব্যক্তির।
কারবালা হত্যাকান্ডের পর মুসলিম উম্মাহর মধ্যে যে অস্থিরতা আর ফিতনা তৈরি হয়েছিল ইয়াজিদের মৃত্যুর মধ্যে দিয়ে তার পরিসমাপ্তি ঘটবে বলে অনেকে ধারণা করেছিলেন কিন্তু বাস্তবে ঘটতে থাকে তার উল্টো।
ইয়াজিদের মৃত্যুর পরের দশ বছর একের পর এক বিদ্রোহ, পাল্টা বিদ্রোহে রক্তাত্ব হতে থাকে মক্কা-মদিনা, কুফা আর দামেস্ক। ইসলামের আকাশ কলঙ্কিত হতে থাকে কালো মেঘে।
সুফিয়ানিদ থেকে মারওয়ানিদ বংশের শাসন :
ইয়াজিদের মৃত্যুর পর উত্তরাধিকার সুত্রে ক্ষমতা চলে যায় তার বড় ছেলে মুয়াবিয়া-২ এর কাছে। তখন তার বয়স মাত্র ২১ বছর। মাত্র ৭ মাসের মাথায় তিনি নিজেই ক্ষমতা ত্যাগ করেন। আল্লার ইবাদতে মনোযোগ দিতে মসজিদে সময় কাটাতে ব্যস্ত হয়ে পড়েন তিনি।
ক্ষমতা ত্যাগের পিছনে তিনি যে যুক্তি দিয়েছিলেন তা উমাইয়া বংশের অপমানের কারণ হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছিল। ইমাম হাসানের কাছ থেকে তার দাদা মুয়াবিয়ার জোর করে ক্ষমতা গ্রহণকে সঠিক মনে করেননি তিনি এছাড়া বাবা ইয়াজিদের সময়ের কারবালার হত্যাকান্ডের দায় নিতে চান নি। ক্ষমতা তখন তার কাছে বিভীষিকাময় হয়ে উঠেছিল। এমন দ্বন্দ্ব ফ্যাসাদ থেকে নিজেকে সরিয়ে নেন তিনি এবং আল্লার ইবাদতে মনোনিবেশ করেন।
ক্ষমতা ছাড়ার চল্লিশ দিনের মধ্যেই মৃত্যু বরণ করেন ইবনে ইয়াজিদ। কারো কারো মতে তাকে বিষ প্রয়োগে হত্যা করেছিল উমাইয়া বংশেরই ক্ষমতালোভিরা। সময়টা ৬৮৪ সালের জানুয়ারি মাস।
এরপর উত্তরাধিকার সুত্রে ক্ষমতা চলে যায় ইয়াজিদের নাবালক সন্তান খালিদ ইবনে ইয়াজিদের কাছে। যেহেতু খালিদ তখনও নাবালক তাই সাবালক না হওয়া পর্যন্ত ক্ষমতা দেখভালের দ্বায়িত্ব দেয়া উমাইয়া বংশের প্রভাবশালী ব্যক্তি মারওয়ান ইবনে হাকামের উপর। যিনি ছিলেন তৃতীয় খলিফা উসমানের ভাতিজা ও প্রথম মুয়াবিয়ার চাচাতো ভাই। উমাইয়া খিলাফতের প্রধান তিন ব্যক্তির তৃতীয়জন হলেন এই মারওয়ান।
হঠাৎ পাওয়া সেই ক্ষমতার অপব্যবহার শুরু করেন মারওয়ান। খালিদ ইবনে ইয়াজিদকে বঞ্চিত করে তার ছেলে আব্দুল মালেককে উত্তারাধিকার মনোনিত করেন। এই নিয়ে উমাইয়াদের মধ্যে শুরু হয় দ্বন্দ। উমাইয়া খেলাফত সুফিয়ানিদ বংশ থেকে মারওয়ানিদ বংশের হাতে চলে যায়।
ইয়াজিদের মৃত্যুর পর তার বিধবা স্ত্রীকে বিয়ে করেছিলেন মারওয়ান। খালিদ ইবনে ইয়াজিদকে বঞ্চিত করে ছেলে আব্দুল মালেককে উত্তরাধিকার মনোনিত করায় ক্ষিপ্ত হয়ে উঠেন খালিদের মা মানে মারওয়ানের স্ত্রী। ঘুমন্ত অবস্থায় মারওয়ানকে তিনি বালিশ চাপা দিয়ে হত্যা করেছিলেন বলে ধারণা করা হয়।
৬৮৫ সালের মে মাসে মাত্র ৯ মাস ১৮ দিনের ক্ষমতা শেষ হয় মারওযান ইবনে হাকামের। এরপর দামেস্কের ক্ষমতায় বসেন তার ছেলে আব্দুল মালেক।
ক্ষমতার এমন পালাবদলে দামেস্ক ছেড়ে মিশর চলে যান খালিদ ইবনে ইয়াজিদ এবং শিক্ষাদীক্ষায় মন দেন। প্রচুর বই পড়তেন তিন, বই সংগ্রহ করা তার নেশায় পরিনত হয়েছিল পরবর্তীতে তিন একজন নামকরা রসায়নবিদ হয়েছিলেন। চল্লিশ বছর বয়সে মারা যান খালিদ ইবনে ইয়াজিদ।
৬৮৪ সালে মারওয়ানের মৃত্যুর পর পুত্র আব্দুল মালেক দামেস্কের ক্ষমতা খুব শক্ত হাতে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করেন। ধীরে ধীরে অন্য প্রদেশ গুলো দখল করতে থাকে মালেক। ৬৯১ সালে কুফাও দখলে চলে যায় আব্দুল মালেকের। মক্কা ছাড়া বাকি প্রদেশ উমাইয়ারা পুর্ণ নিয়ন্ত্রণ প্রতিষ্ঠা করেন।
মক্কায় ইবনে যুবায়ের একা হয়ে পড়েন।কুফার কুখ্যত গভর্নর হাজ্জাজ বিন ইউসুফের নেতৃত্ব মক্কা দখল করেন উমাইয়ারা।
৬৯২ সালের নভেম্বরে মক্কায় শহীদ হন আবদুল্লাহ ইবনে জুবায়ের। ৬৮০ সালে কারবালা যুদ্ধ দিয়ে শুরু হওয়া ইসলামের দ্বিতীয় ফিতনা শেষ হয় ৬৯২ সালে।
এরপর ইসলামী উম্মাহ একমাত্র ক্ষমতাবান হয়ে ওঠেন আব্দুল মালেক ইবনে মারওয়ান। শুরু হয় উমাইয়াদের আরো দীর্ঘমেয়াদী শাসন।বিদ্রোহ যেমন তিনি শক্ত হাতে দমন করেছিলেন তেমনি প্রশাসনেও কিছু যুগান্তকারী পরিবর্তন আনেন। প্রথমবারের মতো মুসলিম বিশ্বে আরবী মুদ্রার প্রচলন শুরু করেন তিনি দলিল দস্তাবেজে আরবী ভাষার ব্যবহার বাধ্যতামুলক করেন।
স্থাপত্য শিল্পে তার নজির অনন্য। জেরুজালেম বলতে আমরা এখন যে স্থাপনটিকে বুঝি সেই ‘কুব্বাতুস সাখরা বা ডোম অব দা রক’ তিনিই নির্মাণ করেছিলেন। আব্দুল মালেকের শাসন চলে ২০ বছর। ৭০৫ সালে তার মৃত্যুর পর ক্ষমতা চলে যায় তার চার ছেলের কাছে।
প্রথমে ক্ষমতা পায় ওয়ালিদ। তার সময়ে খিলাফতের বিস্তৃতি সবচেয়ে বেশি ঘটে। ভারতে মুসলমানদের প্রথম বিজয় হয় তার সময়ই। সিন্ধু ও মুলতান বিজয় হয় মুহাম্মদ বিন কাশেমের নেতৃত্বে। দ্বিতীয় ওয়ালিদের ১০ বছর শাসন শেষ হয় তার মৃত্যুর মধ্য দিয়ে।
এরপর ক্ষমতায় বসেন তার ছোট ভাই সোলায়মান। দু বছরের মধ্যেই মৃত্যু বরণ করেন তিনি।
এরপর ক্ষমতার পথ একটু বাঁক নেয়। এবার আব্দুল মালেকের ছেলে নয় , ভাই আব্দুল আজিজের ছেলে দ্বিতীয় উমরের কাছে ক্ষমতা চলে যায়। মাত্র তিন বছরের শাসনে তিনি এত জনপ্রিয় হয়ে উঠেছিলেন যে কেউ কেউ খোলাফায়ের রাশেদিনের চার খলিফার সাথে তুলনা করে তাকে পঞ্চম খলিফা হিসেবে বলে থাকেন। ৭২০ সালে মাত্র ৩৮ বছর বয়সে মৃত্যু হয় দ্বিতীয় উমরের।
এরপর আবারো আব্দুল মালেকের সন্তানদের কাছে ক্ষমতা ফেরে। মালেকের তৃতীয় সন্তান ২য় ইয়াজিদ ৪ বছর ইসলামী ক্ষমতার নেতৃত্বে ছিলেন।
তারপর দীর্ঘ ১৯ বছরের জন্য ক্ষমতায় বসেন হিসাম ইবনে মালিক। ৭২৪ থেকে ৭৪৩ সালে মৃত্যুর আগ পর্যন্ত ক্ষমতায় ছিলেন তিনি। হিসাম ছিলেন উমাইয়া খিলাফতের শেষ শক্তিশালী খলিফা। এরপর তাদের শক্তি ধীরে ধীরে কমতে শুরু করে।
এরপর চাচার কাছ থেকে ক্ষমতা পান ২য় ইয়াজিদের ছেলে দ্বিতীয় ওয়ালিদ। মাত্র ১ বছরের মাথায় মৃত্যু হয় তার। এরপর ৭৪৪ সালে মাত্র এক বছরে দুইজন খলিফার শাসন শেষ হয়। প্রথম ওয়ালিদের দুই পুত্র ইব্রাহিম ও তৃতীয় ইয়াজিদ।
তৃতীয় ইয়াজিদ ছয়মাস শাসন করে মৃত্যুবরণ করলে ক্ষমতায় আসেন দূর্বল অসফল শাসক ইব্রাহিম। তিনি দ্বিতীয় মারওয়ানের দ্বারা ক্ষমতাচুত্য হন ৭৪৪ সালে।উমাইয়াদের ক্ষমতার শেষ হয় মারওয়ান ইবনে মুহাম্মদের হাতে। যিনি ইতিহাসে দ্বিতীয় মারওয়ান নামে পরিচিতি। উমাইয়াদের ১৪তম খলিফা ছিলেন তিনি।
৭৪৪-৭৫০ এই চার বছর ক্ষমতায় থাকার পর দ্বিতীয় উমর আব্বাসীয়দের হাতে নিহত হলে দামেস্কে শেষ হয় উমাইয়াদের খেলাফত।
৬৬১ সালে শুরু হওয়া খিলফত ৭৫০ সালে এসে চলে যায় আব্বাসীয়দের হাতে। আরব থেকে পালিয়ে আফ্রিকার কর্ডোবায় বংশের শাসন চালু রাখেন উমাইয়ারা। ১০৩১ সালে কর্ডোবায় ক্ষমতা হারালে, পৃথিবী থেকে উমাইয়াদের শাসন চিরতরে শেষ হয়।
