কারবালা : কেন এই যুদ্ধ ?
আরবী মহররম মাসের ১০ তারিখ। পৃথিবীর ইতিহাসে এক নৃশংসতম হত্যাকান্ড সংঘটিত হয় ইরাকের কারবালার প্রান্তরে। এইদিন নির্মমভাবে হত্যা করা মোহাম্মাদ (সা.) এর প্রাণপ্রিয় নাতি ইমাম হোসাইন ও তার ৭২ জন সঙ্গীকে।
ইসলামের ইতিহাসের সবচেয়ে বর্বোরিত এবং জঘন্যতম ঘটনা ধরা হয় এই কারবালার যুদ্ধকে! আজ প্রায় সাড়ে তেরশ বছর পরও সেই শোক বুকে ধারণ করে আছে মুসলমানেরা। শিয়া মুসলমানেরা নিজেদের রক্ত দিয়ে সেই শোকের মাতম করে যাচ্ছে এখনও । কিন্তু কেন এই যুদ্ধ ? কারা কিভাবে এই নৃশংস যুদ্ধ শুরু করলো ?
সাল ১০ অক্টোবর, ৬৮০ খ্রী.। ৬১ হিজরি। কারবালার ময়দানে ইমাম হোসাইন ও তার ৭২ জন সঙ্গীর সাথে ইয়াজিদের বাহিনীর ৩০ হাজার সৈন্যে সাথে হয় এই যুদ্ধ। কারন মদ্যপ ইয়াজিদকে খলিফা মানতে নারাজ হোসাইন। ইয়াজিদের বিশাল বাহিনীর কাছে নত স্বীকার করতে অপরাগ ইসলামের সাহসী এই যোদ্ধা । নিশ্চিত মৃত্যু জেনেও সত্যের পক্ষে দাঁড়িয়ে সেদিন পরিবারের সকলের সাথে নিজের জীবন উৎস্বর্গ করেছিলেন হোসাইন। এর রাজনৈতিক ইতিহাসটা বুঝতে একটু পিছনে ফেরা যাক।
কারবালার আগের পটভুমি:
চার খলিফার যুগ শেষ হবার পর ইসলামি খেলাফতের প্রধান হন চতুর্থ খলিফা হযরত আলীর বড় ছেলে ইমাম হাসান। কিন্তু পিতা আলীর মতো হাসানকেও খলিফা মানতে নারাজ দামেস্কের প্রভাবশালী গর্ভনর মুয়াবিয়া। কোন ধরণের দাঙ্গা ফ্যাসাদ চান না বলে মাত্র ৬ মাসের মাথায় ইমাম হাসান কয়েকটি শর্তে মুয়াবিয়ার কাছে খেলাফত হস্তান্তর করেন। তার প্রধানতম শর্ত ছিল মুয়াবিয়া তা খেলাফতের পর ইমাম হাসানের নিকট আবার খিলাফত হস্তান্তর করবেন। ইসলামে যাকে বলা হয় ‘ঐক্যের সন্ধি’। এর ফলে ৬৬১ খ্রি. ইসলামের খলিফা হন দামেস্কের গর্ভনর মুয়াবিয়া।
তার ক্ষমতা গ্রহণের কিছুদিন পরেই ইমাম হাসানকে বিষ প্রয়োগে হত্যা করেন তার স্ত্রী জায়েদা। ধারণা করা হয় এই ষড়যন্ত্রে মুয়াবিয়া ও পুত্র ইয়াজিদের হাত ছিল। প্রায় ২০ বছর ক্ষমতায় থাকার পর মুয়াবিয়া শর্ত ভঙ্গ করে মৃত্যুর আগে খলিফা নির্বাচিত করে যান তার নিজ পুত্র ইয়াজিদকে। ৬৮০ খ্রিস্টাব্দের মে মাসে ইসলামের নতুন খলিফা হন ইয়াজিদ। দামেস্ক হয় ইসলামি খেলাফতের নতুন ঘাঁটি।
এই অন্যায় আচরণে মুসলমানদের মধ্যে অসন্তোষ দেখা দেয়া। দ্বিধা বিভক্তি হয়ে পড়েন মুসলমানেরা। মুয়াবিয়ার পর খলিফা হবার জন্য সবচেয়ে যোগ্য দাবিদার ছিলেন হোসাইন ইবনে আলী, আবদুল্লাহ ইবনে যুবায়ের ও আরো বেশ কয়েকজন সাহাবি। কিন্তু তাদের মধ্যে থেকে খলিফা না করে পুত্র ইয়াজিদকে খলিফা বানানোয় ইসলাম এক গভীর সংকটে পড়ে। ইসলামের খিলাফতে শুরু হয় রাজবংশের শাসন। পিতার অযোগ্য সন্তানও হয়ে যান ক্ষমতার উত্তরাধিকার।
ইয়াজিদের বিরুদ্ধে অভিযোগ ছিল তিন মদ পান করতেন। উচ্ছশৃংখল জীবন যাপনে অভ্যস্ত ছিলেন যা ইসলামি খেলাফতকে প্রশ্নবিদ্ধ করে। হোসেন ইবনে আলী সহ বিশিষ্ট সাহাবারা অযোগ্য ইয়াজিদের খেলাফতকে মানতে অস্বীকৃতি জানায়। হোসাইন ও ইয়াজিদের বিরোধের সুত্রপাত এখান থেকেই।
কারবালার দিকে যাত্রা :
ইয়াজিদ তার বশ্যতা স্বীকার করার জন্য মদিনার গর্ভনর ওয়ালিদকে দিয়ে চাপ প্রযোগ করতে থাকেন হোসাইন ও সাহাবীদের। এরপর আর মদিনায় থাকা আর নিরাপদ নয় মনে করে ইমাম হোসাইন ও তার অনুসারিরা মক্কায় চলে যায়।
এসময় কুফা থেকে একের পর এক চিঠি আসতে থাকে হোসাইনের কাছে। সবাই হোসাইনের কাছে বাইয়াত নিতে চায় এবং ইয়াজিদের বিপক্ষে জান মাল বাজি রেখে যুদ্ধ করতে চান। এসময় প্রায় ৫০০ চিঠি আসে ইমাম হোসাইনের কাছে। সবার আকুতি হোসেইন যেন দ্রুত কুফায় চলে আসে।
পরিস্থিতি সরেজমিনে দেখতে চাচাতো ভাই মুসলিম ইবনে আকীলকে কুফার পাঠায় হোসাইন। মুসলিমকে পেয়ে একে একে ১৮০০ কুফাবাসী হোসাইনের পক্ষে বাইয়াত বা শপথ গ্রহণ করেন। পরিস্থিতি অনুকুলে উল্লেখ করে হোসাইনেকে দ্রুত কুফায় আসতে বলেন মুসলিম।
এই চিঠি পেয়ে মক্কা থেকে কুফার দিকে যেতে চাইলে কিছু সাহাবী হোসেইনকে কুফা বাসির উপর ভরসা করতে নিষেধ করেন। তারা তার বাবা আলীর সাথে কুফা বাসীর ধোঁকা দেয়ার কথা মনে করিয়ে দেন কিন্তু তবু ইসলামকে ইয়াজিদের হাত থেকে রক্ষা করতে কুফার উদ্দেশ্যে যাত্রা শুরু করেন হোসাইন ও তার অনুসারীরা। সালটা ৬৮০ খ্রি. ৯ ই সেপ্টেম্বর।
এর মধ্যে কুফার পরিস্থিতি পাল্টাতে থাকে। ইয়াজিদ হঠাৎ নুমানকে বরখাস্ত করে উবাইদুল্লাহ ইবনে জিয়াদকে কুফার নতুন গর্ভনর নিয়োগ করেন। বর্বর উবাইদুল্লাহ দ্রুত তার বাহিনী দিয়ে মুসলমানদের ভয়ভীতি দেখিয়ে পরিস্থিতি তার অনুকুলে নিয়ে আসে। উবাইদুল্লা মুসলিমকে বন্দি করে হত্যা করেন। কুফাবাসী আবারো বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করে হোসাইনের পক্ষ ত্যাগ করে পালিয়ে যায়। এই বিশ্বাসঘাতকতার খবর মুত্যুদন্ড কার্যকরের আগে মুসলিম চিঠিতে হোসেনকে জানিয়ে দেন।
সেই চিঠি হোসাইনের কাছে যখন পৌঁছায় তখন কুফা মাত্র ২ দিনের পথ বাকি। সেখান থেকে হোসাইন ফিরতে চাইলে তার পথ রোধ করে ইয়াজিদের তিন বাহিনী। আমর, সীমার ও হুসাইন বিন তামীম এর বাহিনী হোসেইন ও তার অনুসারীদের এক মরু প্রান্তের দিকে নিয়ে যায়। হোসাইন যখন জানতে পারে এই স্থানটির নাম কারবালা তখন তিনি তার অনুসারী ও পরিবার নিয়ে তাবু ফেলে এই কারবালায়। সালটা ২ অক্টোবর, ৬৮০ খ্রি.।
ইয়াজিদের সেনাপ্রধান উমার ইবনে সাদ কারবালায় এসে প্রথম ফোরাত নদী থেকে পানি সংগ্রহ করা বন্ধ করে দেয় হোসািইন ও তার সঙ্গীদের। কয়েকদিনের মধ্যে পানির অভাবে শিশু, নারী আর সৈন্য্রা দিশেহারা হয়ে পড়েন । ৮ দিন পানি পান করতে দেয়া হয়নি তাদের কাউকে।
যুদ্ধ যখন অসম্ভমভাবি তখন রক্তপাত ও খুনাখুনি বন্ধে ৩ টি প্রস্তাব দেন হোসাইন। ১.তাকে মদীনায় ফিরে যেতে দেওয়া হোক ২. তাকে তুর্কী সীমান্তের দূর্গে অবস্থান করতে দেয়া হোক। ৩. ইয়াজিদের সাথে আলোচনার জন্য দামেস্কে পাঠানো হোক।
কিন্তু উবাইদুল্লাহ হোসেইনকে নিশর্তভাবে ইয়াজিদের বশ্যতা স্বীকার করতে বলেন। হোসেইন ইয়াজিদের কাছে বশ্যতা স্বীকার করার চাইতে যুদ্ধে শহীদ হওয়াকেই সম্মানের মনে করেন। তাই যুদ্ধের জন্য প্রস্তুত হয় দুপক্ষই। পরের দিন ১০ ই মহররম শুরু হলো যুদ্ধ। কারবালার যুদ্ধ একদিনেরে যুদ্ধ।
১০ মহররম : এক ভয়াবহ নৃশংসতার দিন :
আগের রাতে অনুসারিরদের সাথে একটি ভাষণে ইমাম হোসাইন জানান, যে কেউ চাইলে যার তার দল ত্যাগ করে চলে যেতে পারেন। কিন্তু তার সঙ্গীরা কেউ তাকে ত্যাগ করলেন না। হোসেইনের সাথে যুদ্ধে জীবন বাজি রাখেন সবাই। আর পুরো রাত আল্লার ইবাদতে মশগুল থকে সকালে যুদ্ধের জন্য প্রস্তুত হন।
যুদ্ধের সকাল :
১০ই মহররম, ৬১ হিজরি। সকালে শুরু হয় যুদ্ধ। শেষ হয় সূর্যাস্তের আগে। একদিনের যুদ্ধ কারবালার যুদ্ধ।
ইমাম হোসাইন তার দুই সেনাপতি নিয়োগ করেন দুইদিকে আর তাবু সামলানোর দায়িত্ব দেন ভাই আব্বাসকে। ৩২ টি ঘোড়া আর ৪০ জন পদাতিক সৈন্য ছিল হোসাইনের বাহিনীতে। আর ইয়াজিদের ছিল প্রায় ৩০ হাজার সৈন্য। কারবালার যুদ্ধ এক অসম শক্তির যুদ্ধ।
যুদ্ধ শুরুর আগে ইয়াজিদ বাহিনীকে পক্ষ ত্যাগ করে আল্লাহ ও তার রসুলের পক্ষে যোগ দেবার আহবান জানান এবং তাতে ইয়াজিদের পক্ষ ত্যাগ করে হোসেইনের পক্ষ চলে আসেন আল হুর ইবনে ইয়াজিদ ও তার বাহিনী।
এদিকে হঠাৎ ইবনে সাদকে বাদ দিয়ে সীমারকে যুদ্ধের সেনাপতি নিয়োগ করে ইয়াজিদ। ইবনে সাদ প্রথম তীর ছুঁড়ে যুদ্ধে শুরু করেন। হোসাইনের ডান দিকে বাহিনী যখন অসীম সাহসে যুদ্ধ করছিল তখন সরাসরি বুকে তীর মেরে যুদ্ধের চুক্তি ভঙ্গ করে সীমারের বাহিনী আর এতেই পরাস্ত হন হোসাইনের বাহিনী।
এরপর নিয়মানুযায়ী শুরু হয় একক যুদ্ধ। একে একে হোসাইনের সকল অনুসারিরা যখন শহীদ হন তখন নিজের পরিবারের সদস্যরা যুদ্ধের ময়দানে আসেন। হোসাইনের ছেলে আলী আকবর একক যুদ্ধে পরাস্ত হবার আগে কাঁপিয়ে দেয় ইয়াজিদের বাহিনীকে। আর ইমাম হাসানের ছেলে কাসিম বীরের মতো যুদ্ধ করে প্রথম শহীদ হন।
পানির অভাবে নারী পুরুষ শিশুরা পিপাসায় আর্তনাদ করতে থাকে। তাদের মুখের দিকে চেয়ে ফোরাত নদীতে পানি আনতে যান ভাই আব্বাস। এই অসীম সাহসী আব্বাসকে কেউই থামাতে পারেনা। ইয়াজিদের সৈন্যদের ভেদ করে সে নদী থেকে পানি আনতে যান আব্বাস। কিন্তু ফেরার পথে প্রথমে তার ডান হাত কাটা পড়ে এরপর তিনি বাম হাত দিয়েই যুদ্ধ চালাতে থাকেন। শেষ পর্যন্ত শহীদ হন আব্বাস ইবনে আলী।
এরপর পরের ঘটনা আরো মর্মান্তিক । মাত্র ৬ মাসের পুত্র শিশু আসগর হাতে নিয়ে মযদানে আসে হোসাইন। জালিমদের দিকে প্রশ্ন ছুড়ে দেন কেন তারা যুদ্ধ করছে? কি অপরাধ এই শিশুটির ? এমন সময় হঠাৎ একটি তীর এসে আসগরের দেহ রক্তাত্ব করে দেয়। পিতার হাতেই শহীদ হন ছয় মাসের শিশু আসগর ।
অসুস্থ পুত্র জয়নাল ছাড়া বাকি সব পুরুষ নিহত হলে একাই যুদ্ধের জন্য প্রস্তত হয় হোসাইন। বিদায় মুহুর্তে মেয়ে জয়নবের কান্না আর পিতা হোসাইনের বেদনায় ভারি হয়ে ওঠে পুরো কারবালার ময়দান।
হোসাইনের যুদ্ধ :
শুরু হয় হোসাইনের একক যুদ্ধ। অকুতোভয় বীরের মতো যুদ্ধে একের পর এক সৈন্যেকে পরাজিত করতে থাকে হোসাইন। হোসেইন যখন অপ্রতিরোধ হয়ে ইয়াজিদের বাহিনীকে পরাজিত করে সামনে আগাতে থাকে ঠিক তখন একের পর এক তীর এসে বিদ্ধ করতে থাকে তার ঘোড়ার শরীর। একটি তীর হোসা্ইনের উরুতেও এসে লাগে। মাটিতে পড়ে যান ইমাম। এরপর আরো শক্তি আর সাহসের সাথে যুদ্ধ চালতে থাকেন হোসাইন। যেন এক আল্লাহ ছাড়া কারো কাছে মাথা নত করতে জানে না মুসলমানেরা। জীবন তুচ্ছ মনে করে অন্যায়ের সাথে আপোষ করার চাইতে।
একেরপর এক তীর এক বিঁধে যাচ্ছিল হোসাইনের শরীর। এমন সময় একটি তীর একে কলিজায় বিঁধে যায়। মাটিতে লুটিয়ে পড়েন হোসাইন। ইয়াজিদের বাহিনী এসে ঘিরে ধরে হোসেইনকে। তবে কেউ তাকে আঘাত করতে কেউই সাহস পাচ্ছিলেন না। তারা কেউই চাচ্ছিলেন না মোহাম্মদ (সা.) এই প্রিয়পাত্র হোসাইনকে আঘাত করে নিজের হাত রক্তাত্ব করতে।
এরই মধ্যে প্রথম এসে হোসাইনকে আঘাত করেন সীমার বিন যুল জওসান। তার গলায় নির্দয়ভাবে ছুরি চালিয়ে মস্তক কেটে ধড়কে আলাদা করে ফেলে সীমার। কারো কারো মতে এই নিকৃষ্ট ব্যক্তিটি ছিলেন সিনান বিন আনাস আন নাখঈ । এরপর মৃত দেহটির উপর চালানো হয় ভয়াবহ রকমের নৃশংসতা। হোসাইনের শরীরে ৩৩ টি বর্শা ও ৩৪ টি তরবারির দাগ পাওয়া যায়। ৫৪ বছর বয়সে কারবালায় শহীদ হন ইসলামের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ যোদ্ধা ইমাম হোসাইন ।
হোসেনর কাটা মস্তকে বর্ষার গেথে ইয়াজিদের কাছে পাঠানো হয়। এই ভয়াবহ নৃশংসতা ইয়াজিদেরও বুক কেপে ওঠে। কাটা মাথা ফেরত পাঠালে কারবালায় দাফন করা হয় ইমাম হোসেনকে । শিশু ও নারীদের বন্ধি করে দামেস্কে পাঠাননো হয়। তাবুতে আগুন ধরিয়ে দেয়া হয় । যুদ্ধে ইয়াজিদের ৮৮ জন সৈন্য নিহত হয় ।আর হোসেনের পক্ষের একমাত্র জয়নাল ছাড়া সকল পুরুষ মোট ৭২ জনই মারা যায়।
ইমাম হোসাইনের এমন নৃসংশ হত্যার প্রতিবাদে চারিদিকে বিদ্রোহের আগুন দেখা দেয়। মাত্র তিন বছরের মাথায় ইয়াজিদ এক বিরল রোগে মারা যান এবং তার সঙ্গীদের হত্যা করা হয়।
পরিসমাপ্তি ঘটে ইসলামের এক বেদনার অধ্যায়ের। কারবালার প্রান্তরে ইমাম হোসাইন ও তার সঙ্গিদের আত্নত্যাগ এক গভীর ও সুদুর প্রসারি প্রভাব ফেলে মুসলমানদের মনে।
