মান্ধাতার আমল
আমরা পুরোনো আমলের কোন জিনিসের উপমা দিতে গিয়ে প্রায়ই বলি ‘মান্ধাতার আমলে’র জিনিস। কিন্তু কেন বলি ? কে এই মান্ধাতার?
কে ছিলেন মান্ধাতা :
হিন্দুধর্ম মতে পৃথিবীর সময়কে ভাগ করা হয়েছে চার ভাগে। সত্য, ত্রতা, দ্বাপর ও কলি যুগ। আমরা এখন বাস করছি কলি বা পাপের যুগে।এই যুগের বয়স ৪ লক্ষ ৩২ হাজার বছর।
মান্ধাতার ছিলেন একজন রাজা এবং তিনি ছিলেন সত্য যুগের মানুষ। মানে কয়েক লক্ষ বছর আগের রাজা। ইতিহাস নয় এসব পুরাণের কথা। বিশ্বাসের মধ্যে দিয়ে এসব কাহিনী টিকে আছে হাজার হাজার বছর ধরে। কৃত্তিবাসের রামায়ণে এই ব্যাপারটা পাওয়া যায়। এছাড়া বিষ্ণুপুরাণে মান্ধাতার কাহিনী পাওয়া যায়।
মান্ধাতার জন্ম যেভাবে হল :
মান্ধাতার জন্ম নিয়ে একটি মজার গল্প প্রচলিত আছে। মান্ধাতার একমাত্র মানুষ যা জন্ম নারী নয় হয়েছিল একজন পুরুষের গর্ভে অথ্যাৎ তাকে গর্ভে ধরেছেন তার পিতা, তার মাতা নয়।
মান্ধাতারে পিতার নাম ছিল যুবনাশ্বের। তার কোন পুত্র সন্তান ছিল না। রাজা যুবনাশ্ব পুত্র সন্তানরে আশায় সব চেষ্ঠা যখন ব্যর্থ তখন তিনি দারস্থ হন ঋষি-মুনিদের। মুনিদের আশ্রম গিয়ে তিনি সাধনা শুরু করেন। মুনিরা সন্তুষ্ঠ হয়ে তার পুত্র সন্তান পাবার জন্য এক যজ্ঞের আয়োজন করেন। যজ্ঞ শেষ হতে রাত গভীর হয়ে যায়। এ সময় মুনিরা একটি কলসি ভর্তি পানিতে মন্ত্র পড়ে ঘুমাতে যান। এই কলসির পানি পান করলে যুবনাশ্বের স্ত্রীর গর্ভে পুত্র সন্তানের জন্ম হবে।
কিন্তু যুবনাশ্ব রাতের বেলা পিপাসায় কাতর হয়ে নিজেই কলসির পানি পান করে ফেলেন। সকালে মুনিরা ঘুম থেকে জেগে পানি পানের ঘটনা শুনে ঘোষণা করলেন – পানি যেহেতু যুবনাশ্ব পান করেছে, সন্তান তার গর্ভেই জন্মাবে।
গর্ভধারণের কষ্টের কথা ভেবে ভয় পেয়ে গেলেন যুবনাশ্বের। মুনিরা তাকে গর্ভধারণের কষ্ট থেকে রেহাই দিলেন।একশ বছর পর তার পেটের বাম পার্শ্ব ভেদ করে জন্ম নিলেন মান্ধাতা। কিন্তু মাতৃদুগ্ধ ছাড়া কিভাবে বাঁচবে তার সন্তান ভাবছিলেন যুবনাশ্বের। তখন ইন্দ্র এসে বাচ্চার মুখে আঙুল চুষতে দিয়ে তাকে আশ্বস্ত করলেন বাঁচিয়ে রাখার ব্যাপারে।
রাজা হলেন মান্ধাতার :
বড় হয়ে মান্ধাতা বাবার রাজ্যের রাজা হলেন।এবার তিনি পৃথিবী জয়ে বেরিয়ে পড়লেন। সুমেরু পর্বতে রাক্ষসরাজ রাবণের সাথে তার তুমুল যুদ্ধ হলো। উভয়ের শক্তি সমান হওয়ায় কেউই পরাজিত হলেন না। হয়ে গেল তাদের মধ্যে বন্ধুত্ব।
এরপরে মান্ধাতা স্বর্গরাজ্য জয়ে বের হলে ইন্দ্র তাকে সারা পৃথিবী জয়ের পর স্বর্গরাজ্য জয় করার চেষ্টা করতে বলেন। কারণ মধুর পুত্র লবণাসুর তখনো তার অধীনতা মেনে নেয়নি। এবারে যুদ্ধ হলো লবণের সাথে। কিন্তু মান্ধাতা আর পারলেন না। নিহত হলেন তার হাতে। শেষ হয়ে গেল পুরাণের এক কালজয়ী চরিত্রের গল্প।
মান্ধাতার আমল :
কখন ছিল মান্ধাতার সময়কাল ? হিন্দুধর্ম মতে, মহাকাল (সময়কাল/যুগ) সত্য, ত্রেতা, দ্বাপর ও কলি এই চার যুগে বিভক্ত। এদের মধ্যে সত্য যুগটা শ্রেষ্ঠ যুগ। সে যুগে কোন পাপ ছিলনা। মৃত্যু ছিল ইচ্ছাধীন। সে যুগের রাজা ছিলেন মান্ধাতা।
তার আমলটা ছিল হয়তো এখন থেকে লক্ষ লক্ষ বছর আগে। কারণ সত্য, ত্রেতা ও দ্বাপর যুগের সময়কাল ছিল যথাক্রমে ১৭,২৮,০০০ বছর, ১২,৯৬,০০০ বছর এবং ৮,৬৪,০০০ বছর। আর আমরা যে পাপের যুগে (কলি কাল) বাস করছি তার দৈর্ঘ্য ৪,৩২,০০০ বছর।
বোঝা যাচ্ছে, মান্ধাতার আমলটা অনেক প্রাচীন। এজন্যই প্রাচীন বা পুরোনো জিনিস বুঝাতে ‘মান্ধাতার আমল’ কথাটা ব্যবহার করা হয়ে থাকে।
