খ্রি পুর্ব ৮/৯ শতকের দিকে পুকুরটি খনন করা হয়েছিল বলে ধরা হয়। মহাভারতের পঞ্চ পান্ডবেরা কুরুক্ষেত্রের যুদ্ধে পাশা খেলায় হেরে স্বেচ্ছা নির্বাসন নিয়েছিলেন এই এলাকার রাজা বিরাটের রাজগৃহে। রাজা বিরাট পঞ্চপান্ডবদের পানি পানের জন্য এই বিশাল পুকুর খনন করেন। প্রথমে এর নাম ছিল রিবাটের দিঘী, পরের বিন্নী দীঘি নামে পরিচিত ছিল। পরে ১৯৭৯ সালে এর নাম পরিবর্তন করে রাখা হয় নীলসাগর। চাইলে আপনিও ঘুরে আসতে পারেন ঐতিহাসিক পুকুরটি । দেখন ভিডিওতে।
